Seating for the Elderly

Occasionally an elderly person's condition dictates that they remain sitting for a large proportion of their day. Brennan Occupational Therapy Services assess for and prescribe seating solutions that will maintain the person's safety, comfort and postural correctness while maintaining functional ability and enabling access to desired environments.

A prescribed seating solution will help prevent/correct deformities, increase functional ability and improve sociability. Proper seating will also prevent pressure sores and may assist in improving a client's medical status by enhancing their swallowing and breathing ability.

A specialised seating solution also eases the burden of caring for a client by decreasing the number of physical transfers required or by simply making it easier to access desired environments e.g. the garden or the shops.
