How an Occupational Therapist Can Help

If you are having difficulty completing your activities of daily living

  • Getting into or out of bed
  • Getting up or down from your chair
  • Getting into or out of your shower or bath
  • Getting onto or up from your toilet
  • Getting dressed or undressed

  • Getting about in your community

An Occupational Therapist may be able to help you.

An occupational therapist will complete an assessment to examine how you complete your daily activities and to identify the difficulties you experience.

An occupational therapist may suggest new and easier ways of doing an activity to make it easier for you and to help you regain your independence. He may advise on home adaptations and equipment that will help you maintain your independence in completing your daily activities.

If you or your family/carers are worried about you being alone at home your occupational therapist can identify potential risks and hazards. They will advise on changes that you could make to your lifestyle, routine and home to ensure your independence and safety.

What you want from your occupational therapist will depend on your circumstances your lifestyle and aspirations. Discuss your difficulties and desires with your occupational therapist who will work out the best solution for you.
